Reflecting on 2020 and Working Toward a Better 2021

Building a business is like climbing a mountain. I’ve thought a lot about this analogy over the past decade growing A-LIGN – it’s no wonder you see it all over our website and embedded in our logo. It’s why we refer to our employees as CLIMBERS – it requires a tremendous amount of planning, dedication, and effort, but the view from the summit makes it all worth it.

This metaphor took on a new meaning in 2020 as the whole world found itself stuck on a seemingly unscalable rockface. 2020 was a CLIMB like no other.

We’ve finally reached the end of this difficult year and looking back on it I am humbled by the team that surrounds me. Our CLIMBERS’ take A-LIGN’s core values seriously in all aspects of the way we do business, but it was the team’s commitment to ‘Be All In’ that was particularly meaningful in 2020. This year was challenging for many organizations and individuals as we faced a stressful and overwhelming pandemic, and we quickly realized these trying times would require everyone to ‘Be All In’ at work, at home, with our clients and in the community.

To our clients, business partners, and all others we touch in the community – I wanted to share some of what I’m most proud of about how we navigated 2020 and offer my best wishes for a better 2021.

Making an Impact in the Community

Seeing how our CLIMBERS stepped up this year to support the community in times of need was a huge testament to the character of those who work here. The ‘Be All In’ attitude helped A-LIGN pivot to virtual community initiatives as we worked closely with Junior Achievement and Think Big for Kids for virtual career fairs, mentorship programs and a trivia bowl fundraiser to directly support organizations serving the youth in our community.

This year A-LIGN invested in the Tampa Bay Wave’s Cybertech | X Accelerator program, supporting the growing need for the top talent needed to grow Tampa Bay’s recognition as a significant hub for technology startups.

Hiring Our Heroes was also a significant initiative for A-LIGN in 2020. Through this partnership, we were able to facilitate the professional growth of the military in our community by connecting them with opportunities for hands-on corporate training and mentorship. We are honored and proud to have an impact on our veterans’ career journey this year, and we look forward to hosting our future fellows in our 2021 cohorts.

Investing in Our CLIMBERS to Benefit Our Clients

With travel essentially shut down this year, we had to find other ways to be “present” and demonstrate the close partnerships we have with our clients. We invested significantly in our CLIMBERS to ensure they had the education, resources, and support they need to help clients succeed.

A-LIGN’s Organizational and People Development department focused on building robust educational training, performance management and leadership development programs to facilitate professional growth for our CLIMBERS this year and elevate their ability to serve our clients. Through these programs, CLIMBERS gained access to hundreds of training and certification courses in ASPIRE, our repository of courses and learning material. We set and operated against personal and departmental objectives, improved remote communication, and celebrated fellow CLIMBERS for their outstanding performance and commitment to A-LIGN’s core values.

Why do all this? Because our CLIMBERS are the reason clients love us – the more we invest in them, the more we help our clients. In a year where their personal travel and vacations were so frustratingly interrupted, the benefits of investing in their careers and professional development were that much more important.

Blazing New Trails

Despite the setbacks of 2020, we continued to serve 2,500 clients worldwide, expanded our breadth of service offerings and enhanced our innovative technology. We were honored to become one of the first ANAB-accredited ISO 27701 certification bodies, certified CSA STAR Assessors and accredited CMMC C3PAOs. The launch of A-SCEND 2.0 to help our clients take a strategic approach to compliance to mitigate cybersecurity risks and drive revenue and digital transformation was also indicative of our innovation and commitment to better serve our clients through this year and beyond.

A-LIGN was fortunate to employ over 300 global CLIMBERS and double the size of our Bulgaria office this year. Because of the passion, perseverance and grit from each CLIMBER, A-LIGN was humbled to receive over ten awards recognizing the organization’s growth, innovation, philanthropic efforts and workplace culture.

While recognizing that 2020 was not an easy year, we are gracious for the trust that clients continue to place in us and appreciative of every CLIMBER that helped A-LIGN continue to grow in 2020. We wish our clients and the community growth and prosperity in the year ahead as we look to continue partnering and supporting each of them in 2021.
