Did you know Consulting Magazine created an award in 2020 that honors women working in consulting leadership positions? I am excited and proud to announce that A-LIGN’s very own Arti Lalwani, Associate Director of ISO Markets and Accreditation, was one of the amazing leaders who earned the Consulting Women Leadership in Technology 2021 award!
Arti works tirelessly every day to be sure A-LIGN’s ISO certification services is of the highest quality and her team delivers an outstanding customer experience. Her professionalism, work ethic and leadership skills are only a few of the reasons why she was very deserving of this award for “Excellence in Client Services”. I had a chance to sit down with the award winner herself to get Arti’s take on what this award means, not only to her but for all women in technology!
Arti, congratulations on your big win! How does it feel?
I am honored and humbled to be included among many amazing women in the list of consulting women leaders in technology. Winning an award that highlights the impact women make in the technology industry is monumental for me on a personal level because I hope this achievement helps to motivate and inspire other women to consider the consulting IT industry.
What does this award mean to you?
I’m grateful to Consulting Magazine for creating this award last year to recognize the impact that strong, smart women have on the consulting profession each and every day. In the tech industry, one of the biggest challenges women face is the lack of gender diversity. It’s very apparent that men make up most of our industry, and you see that lack of gender diversity when you enter a new company, attend conferences or are part of this space. This award is a chance for women to feel validated and honored for all of their hard work!
As a woman, how do you feel empowered in the workplace?
I feel thankful to be part of A-LIGN because the leadership team empowers female employees by providing equal opportunities to showcase their skills and listen to their opinions. At A-LIGN, I am respected, my voice is heard and I feel empowered as a woman in IT.
How do you help other women feel empowered in the IT consulting industry?
In an effort to be sure others have the same positive experience, in 2019 I co-founded the Women’s Network at A-LIGN that now rolls into the Diversity and Inclusion Network. Our goal was to foster a community where women are inspired to reach their full potential by creating actionable change, communicating freely and building meaningful, supportive relationships.
What advice would you give to women in the workplace?
First of all, don’t be intimidated. You can learn everything you need to be successful – don’t be afraid to enter this space, to fight for what you want or what you believe is right. Second, be confident and act decisively. Doing this creates a demand for respect from others, and once you have that respect you will always have it. Lastly, a mentor is invaluable. Having someone, whether male or female, to share ideas with, answer your questions and understand what you’re going through is most helpful.
